Have you ever wondered what the journey of metal looks like from the beginning to the end of the supply chain?

Last month, Tammer’s representatives had the opportunity to visit both the company that produces metal for Tammer and the one that handles our scrap metal. Our goal was to gain a deeper understanding of the metal supply chain and get an inside look at the entire process.

Our journey begins with sheet metal from ArcelorMittal Belgium, which reaches us via the LEDEN Estonia AS cutting center. Seeing the birthplace of the metal that forms our doors was truly eye-opening. With an 8500 km2 facility and a 9-floor production line, ArcelorMittal’s production capacity was impressive. We thoroughly examined the evolution of the metal industry and the innovative strategies being implemented to minimize CO2 emissions, potentially to zero.

Once the project-based Tammer doors are produced from these metal sheets, we pass on any remaining material to Cronimet Nordic, where our metal finds a new purpose. A large amount is carefully sorted in Estonia and exported to various markets around the world for recycling. We were amazed by the value addition in metal sorting and the high level of digitalization Cronimet employs to keep their systems efficient. Particularly impressive was the focus on sustainable transport, ensuring only fully loaded ships depart from Estonia.

Observing this journey strengthened our dedication to sustainability and innovation in the metal industry. It’s amazing to see how every part of the supply chain plays a role in creating a more sustainable future.
