Tammer contributes 329 doors to the new Drammen Hospital in Norway

The newly constructed Drammen Hospital will serve as the local hospital for the communities of Lier, Drammen and Sande, providing healthcare services for approximately 500,000 people.

The hospital complex covers 122,000 m² and includes more than 5,700 rooms. Construction began with foundation works in 2019 and was completed in 2025.

For the project, Tammer supplied a total of 329 doors, including 238 profile doors and 91 sheet metal doors. The majority of these doors are fire- and smoke-rated, meeting EI30 or EI60 requirements and contributing to the building’s safety and compliance with strict healthcare standards.

Before construction could begin, old industrial buildings on the site had to be demolished and the area remediated. Historically, the site was known as one of the most polluted industrial areas in Norway, where oil, creosote and industrial waste had contaminated the ground. Today, it has been transformed into a modern hospital with an attractive public space.

The interior design aims to reduce the typical institutional feel of hospital environments by incorporating sculptural wooden elements and art, while large windows open views to the nearby fjords.

Tammer is guided by a mission to make the world a safer place. In hospitals and healthcare buildings, where patients may not always be able to evacuate themselves, fire safety becomes especially important.
