Tallinn City Theatre Reopened with 151 Tammer Doors

The reconstruction of the Tallinn City Theatre began in March 2021 and has now concluded after four years of continuous work.

Tammer contributed by manufacturing 151 doors for the theatre complex, the majority of them sheet metal solutions, which include both interior and exterior products, fire-rated and evacuation doors. Among the standout pieces are the impressive 3.5-metre-high sheet metal doors for the Põrgulava stage and the EI120 fireproof bathroom door.

The City Theatre first opened its doors 60 years ago, initially without a stage (or any building) of its own. The entire renovated complex now consists of 16 different buildings and 11,000 square metres of floor space. The renovation of the City Theatre is the largest cultural-sector investment in Estonia in the past decade — and certainly one of the most complex, considering the heritage protection restrictions of the Old Town.

In addition to theatrical art with its 7 stages, the theatre building is now more accessible to the public. Its courtyards and interiors form a contemporary urban environment where visitors can experience performing arts, visual arts and a range of summer cultural events.

The reconstruction project attracted 13 submissions to the 2018 architectural competition, with Salto Architects chosen to design the new complex. Construction was carried out by Ehitus5ECO.
